SHAC Flu Shot Clinics - Thanks to Our Partners
October 13, 2022
We are pleased to announce the results of the SHAC Flu Shot Clinics offered on October 5 and 6, 2022, at the SHAC Plaza. A total of 1,367 students, staff, faculty and visitors were immunized at this two-day event. This was a great turnout considering it was pouring rain!
The event was a collaboration among several UNM Departments: UNM SHAC, UNM HR Employee Wellness, HSC Academic Partners (medical, nursing, and pharmacy), and UNMH (provided the vaccine). These campus flu clinics are an example of the concept of “One University” and each year we have done these clinics, we have become an increasingly cohesive team. Additionally, we’ve made some good friends and connections with a set of volunteers from the NM Medical Reserve Corps, which consisted of six RNs, one PharmD, and a retired physician.
We do this campus community event in memory of Raymond Plotkin, a UNM engineering student who died of H1N1 during the 2009 pandemic before there was a vaccine available, hence the event’s slogan: Take One for Raymond. His parents set up an engineering scholarship in his name as well. For those interested in learning about this history and how these large flu clinics got started, please visit the Take One for Raymond page.
